What kind of woman should freeze her eggs?
I read a very controversial article last few weeks by a lady called Penelope Trunk. The whole thing on why I keep going back to reading Penelope is that whilst she is very controversial and puts back the female species by years and years and years with her comments, what I find is that people just cannot deal with the truth.
In terms of career progression, I am one-down from Penelope, and probably you, who is reading this, because I am female AND asian, which means that I am the worst placed when it comes to the stereotypical boxes people put female Asians in – read: Quiet, Docile, Says yes to everything. If you don’t believe me, then go look into all the Fortune 500 lists and find women who have my profile who are NOT married to someone or BORN into a certain family and have succeeded in their career to get to senior management.
You know for 30 years of my life, I didn’t believe in this! Because my dad told me I could do everything so I grew up extremely secure with myself and never felt it… until last year where I was put stereotypically in the “BOX” over and over again.
So yes, for all of you who might be bitching about your career and life and love, listen up – I have the worst cards dealt to me in my career but I’m still winging it. Trying at least.
Anyway, this article is on the whole big article on FaceBook, Apple, and all these technology companies allowing women to freeze their eggs. Go read it because she is right – by the time you are 30, if you have not figured it out, letting you freeze your eggs isn’t going to let you figure it out.
